To all racers,

No exhaust can exit the door at Meridian Speedway. All cars must turn exhaust down towards the track. There is no exceptions made on this......

Idaho 200 Weekend
I wanted to jot down some of the basics for the weekend of the Idaho 200. Most of you have schedules of the activities as it’s posted on the entry packet at www.raceidaho.com If you have not printed that please do. There are three races available to the competitor over a three night period. INSSA on Friday RMCS on Saturday and of course the 200 on Sunday. For the rules package for the INSSA race are at www.inssa.org The tires to run this event will be available on site. Saturday night RMCS event will run under another set of rules that can be found at www.rmcsracing.com
The top six from each event locks you into the 200. You will still qualify for starting position in the main.
All cars in Sunday’s event will weight 2950 prior to starting the main. The left side weight will be 58%. There is no specified weight breaks for any other engine package.
If you are a contender in the INSSA organization all engine rules apply from that sanctioning body. If you have run one event with them this season you are considered one of theirs.
The same holds true if you contend with the RMCS.
All other cars that are unaffiliated to any sanctioning body will abide by the following engine rules.
360 cubic inches and below can run an open carb rule. Any engine above 360 up to 410 will run the Nascar Tour Legal 390 carb. This carb is the one that Nascar had legal six years ago. Those are the tools we have and it will be adhered to after the race.
This is a thin rulebook and we realize it. So at the end of the event if you are running the big carb, prepare to pump your engine. If you have the little carb prepare to pull it and we will check it.
Tires for the event are the 2040 Hoosiers. You are required to purchase them at the track. You will be allowed six new tires and two used tires to run the event. You can practice on any tires. You will qualify on four of the new tires and at the halfway break you will be allowed to change two new tires. The two spares are for flat tire use only. We will mark two used tires to use as spares and they will be 4/32nds tread depth or less. The following compounds will be allowed as spares. The Goodyear tire from last year’s Idaho 200. The Hoosier 2040 or the 2045. No other Hoosiers will be allowed as spares.

Let’s have some fun that weekend. I look forward to working with INSSA and Joe and all the other great racers that attend…

News for the weekend of the Idaho 200. Last year the Red Lion Templin offered us a great room rate and again this year they have agreed to honor the rate again. It is 82.95 for single/double occupancy. This hotel is beautiful. It sets on the Spokane River and the view is unbelievable. It has great re restaurants and a nice bar. I know the rate seems high but I also know some of you treat this like a vacation. The contact is Beth Myers [ This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ] In order to get the rate you have to mention Stateline Speedway to utilize the blocked rooms set aside for that weekend.

The tire for the 200 on Sunday is our very own Hoosier 2040. This will really help hold costs down for us. I sure hope you can make plans to attend as it will be one of the best events on the schedule. Joe and his staff do an awesome job of making us feel so welcome. If you choose to camp he also has that available on the premise at no cost to you. If you have any questions, please call or email me…

Good Morning…
Looking forward to this weekend. NAPA Auto Parts back involved at Meridian and our good friend Mark Keas will be there..Should be fun.
I would really like to get a head count for Tom Hill’s BBQ. We delayed the party till 7:00 to make sure everybody had time to get there. I will email a map tomorrow so everybody knows where their going. Email me back and let me know how many plan on attending. There will be food and drinks.
I have had requests for Motels and I have been out of town. It appears that Meridian Speedway has a relationship with a motel in Meridian. Here is the link. Please make sure and tell them you’re with the speedway. If you have any other questions please call me..

Good Afternoon,
Our Meridian date is fast approaching and with the new refurbish put on the place I know it promises to be a great event.
Last night I had a conversation with Tom Hill and he made a gracious proposal to me. He has offered to throw a BBQ and swim party for the racers and crews on Friday night. He has the most outrageous backyard you have seen. It would be really fun for all if you could attend. I didn’t say anything to him but I might offer up the beer..
I would love to get some kind of head count so we could be prepared and provide good food and beverage. We will figure out where to park haulers and come get you and bring you into the subdivision. If you need help picking a Hotel for the stay, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you..
Mike
Hey Everybody….
Couple of things to go over. Eddy has put together a fun evening at Montana Steakhouse on Friday evening. They are having a pre race party Friday night 6-9 at the Montana Steakhouse. With specials on drinks and complementary finger foods along with a full menu for all drivers and crew members. They will also have a band playing for your enjoyment. Should be a good time.
Gates open at Magic Valley at Noon on Saturday. Hope to see your bright smiling faces on hand for the second show at MVS. The daily schedule is posted at www.magicvalleyspeedway.com. Click on Weekly Flow Chart on the left side of the front page. Please ignore the 1:00 opening.

Good Morning Everybody,

Tomorrow kicks off the seventh season of the CarbonX RMCS. I’m very excited to get racing underway. This is what all of us work so hard for. I wanted to go over a few things for you to think about in the next 24 hours.

Tires are something that some get confused about. You must start the day on this year’s tires. Please leave whatever test, practice or last years race tires at home. You are starting the first hot lap session on 4 of the six allowed NEW tires for 2010. The tires are all logged into our bar code reading computer. Tires will be randomly checked throughout the day.

Please remember to grab a teammate to go onto the infield with during the main event. We are expecting 16-17 cars for the event so there should be plenty of room down there for everybody. With that being said, please remember the speed limit when you do pull into the pits. He has allowed young children into the pits and is very cognizant of their safety. So SLOW DOWN coming into the pit area.

New Peeps..yes we have some new race teams that have not been with us much. Of you I ask, have a very good spotter. Don’t drag your next door neighbor along and throw a radio on him. After several years of running this series I have come to realize that the spotter is arguably the most important member of your crew. He can save you and the other competitor’s lots of money in torn up equipment. I do not want to see any spotter driving either. The spotters duty is keep the driver aware of what’s around him, and to help keep him out of wrecks. He is not there to help the driver block another racer. Mirror and spotter driving will not be tolerated. I want good, clean racing. Make sure your spotter is not argumentative with the spotter official. She does not make any calls on the track and she can do nothing to help your cause. Your spotter is required in the designated spotter’s area during hot laps, heat races, and main event.

We also require a team member to monitor race control for the team. That member must have radio contact with the spotter and or driver. Franks Radio will be there to help you with this procedure.

Respect is another word that comes to mind. It is give and take on the track. Sometimes you can take a little and sometimes you gotta give a little. You’ll know in the first 10 laps if you got something for the boy’s tomorrow night. What I don’t want you to do is try and run a push pig like it’s perfect. Drive what you got underneath you. That’s how you gain respect in any racing situation.

Listen to the officials. We are there to make your experience as much fun as it can be. We will be doing safety tech on the car, helmet, and suit so have those readily available please.

I will have the decal packages available as soon as we set up the trailer. Please take the time to put these on nicely. CarbonX has a new windshield banner that is nicer. Please remove the one you currently have on there as this new one will look better.

Dan will draw for qualifying order at this race. The second race we will go back to the points and alternate each race.

Our pit meeting is at 2:45 on Saturday. It’s required and I like to see all the team members there. If everybody is there you will see more cohesiveness amongst your crew members.

Let’s have some fun tomorrow and all go home smiling. We do this for fun…right??

Love you all,

Mike and the Crew

Hey Everybody…
Wanted to drop a quick note and go over a few items.
First I would like you to get your registration back to me in the next week or so. The packet includes a waiver and I don’t want to chase you down on race day to take care of it.
Tires will be to me in the next couple of days. I’m sure Aairco’s will arrive within the next couple of days also. The price is the same as last year. They did go up $4.00 but I am going to absorb it because I told you all there would be no raise in price.
ESI Express has funded the "ESI Express Lap Leader Award" for 2010. As you all know Tom Hill and ESI has been the largest supporter that the RMCS has had. They have been with us since the inception and have never waivered in their financial commitment. Every lap ran in 2010 will pay $5.00 to lead. This is a great bonus program that really pays those that lead laps. Please check out esi-express.com to learn about the new Service and Maintenance Division of ESI Construction.
Our first event is Saturday, April 24 at Magic Valley Speedway. We will let you know the gate opening times in the next week or so. I want to remind you about pitting in the infield during the feature event. Eddy has worked hard to give his fans something a little extra and has improved the infield to make pit stops. If you are light on crew or tools just find someone to team up with. Everybody will be required to pit out there instead of pulling into the pit area. If you pull into the pit area you will be held and not let back on.
Magic Valley Speedway is having practice on Friday the night before the race. Time is 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The cost will be 40.00 per car.
I would really like to know if you plan on attending the first event. Please email me with your intentions….
If you have any questions please give me a call or Eddy at 208 280 4448.
Thanks again,
Mike
Hey Everybody, I wanted to put this out as fast as I could. I know…it’s way late. Bare with me as we try to sew up the negotiations with Magic Valley Speedway. There very well might be one more date at MVS when the promoter and Pepsi come to a final agreement on dates. I think it will be in June sometime. Hopefully by the end of this week we will have the final. NAPA is also finalizing it’s involvement with Meridian Speedway.
I will put out the lap count of each race at that time also.
Any questions, you know the drill.

Hey People…

I have to say I’ve been encouraged with the feedback I have gotten. It seems that we have more people than I thought that are seemingly prepared to run the complete season. I am leaning towards a full schedule rather than cutting any races. I believe that in the search for sponsorship, we need a schedule that befits a successful Late Model Touring Series.

I have all but one date set. If you need to know the schedule right now, I can give it to you with the provision that we will probably have one addition. Email me back if that will help you.

On a side note, I have a friend that is looking for a take off body that’s not destroyed. If you plan on a body replacement and would like to sell your current piece please call Jim Bailey at 941-2704.

Everybody,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and I hope we all have a prosperous New Year.

I am in final negotiations with the four promoters for our dates next year. It has been a bit of a struggle juggling everybody’s needs and desires. With the economy sputtering, the track operators have got to be careful with their special events.

Coming into this winter I wasn’t sure that our tracks were going to entertain the same numbers as last year. But as it turns out we are looking at 2 dates in Meridian, 4 in Salt Lake, 3 in Twin and one at Stateline.

Before I sign on to this though, I need to do some soul searching and I need you to be honest about your intents next year.

I am very concerned about car count. I don’t want to sell ourselves and under deliver. So my question to you is kind of two fold.

Is a shorter season better in these tough times? In other words, would 6 dates be better than 10? If the sponsor dollars were stronger would it make a difference in your plans?

The success of this series has been based on our honesty with each other. Our approach with each other has been open and direct. I need that more now than ever from you.

Even if you are not totally sure, then let me know that.

Thanks,

Big Boss

Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas.

I Love You all. I hope you have a great New Year.

Hey Everybody,

I know it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me. I like that break between the season ending banquet and the Holidays. I make quite a few trips in that time. Some for fun and some for the series. I attended the WARPA promoters meetings in Seattle first and then onto Reno. Both were very successful and entertaining. My talk in Reno went well and we are definitely on the radar screen of many promoters.  I just wanted to communicate with you and let you know that I should have a schedule out right after Christmas. We had some opportunities put in front of us that would be very interesting had it not been for the economy. I want to be very careful about travel next year. I don’t want to be pessimistic, but I want to be very cautious.

I have committed again to the NAPA Idaho 200 at Stateline Speedway. We seem to garner lots of support for that event and it’s always a great time. Joe is a wonderful track operator that realizes the commitment we make to go.

We have tentatively scheduled two shows at Magic Valley Speedway. This year we will all be pitting in the infield during the main event. Eddy has decided that if you pull into the pits during the main you will not re enter the track. He wants the fans to see the pit work on the cars. I would suggest you team up with somebody if you are short on help. This will make it more exciting for the fans and I think it adds an element not seen at the other tracks.

Meridian Speedway is undergoing a huge renovation at this time. The track was torn out and completely redone. The pit area is all new and the changes are astounding. They added some progressive banking that looks to have a nice outside groove.

With Meridian sitting right in the middle of town the noise situation has come to the forefront. They worked all last year to get all the cars muffled to 95 dba. This includes the Sprint cars. I have been asked to make sure that none of our competitors have their exhaust exiting the right side door. I know this can be inconvenient for some of you but the race track doesn’t want to deal with the city on any issues after spending all this money on improvements.

The dba reading was taken on the inside of the track and we did pass the rule but unfortunately there were some complaints about noise that night and we were the loudest cars there. When you are standing outside the track, the exhaust is loud when it exits the door. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but it is a necessity. I wanted to give you this info as soon as I was told so that you have some time to make the changes.

Linda and I want to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and very good New Year. Spend all the time you can with your family and please be careful if you’re traveling. I will get back with all of you right after Christmas with a schedule.

With Love,

M

Last but not least, our PR director Derrick Shannon is writing a column on the internet. He is one of the biggest supporters of the series but is not always seen out front. I am leaving a link to his first article and would love for you to sign up as a fan by hitting the fan button and you will get his writings sent to you.http://www.examiner.com/x-27643-Motorsports-Examiner~y2009m10d22-Racing-in-the-gem-state-is-something-special

As always, if you have any questions…. Mike

Hey everybody,

I want to get a note out to you about the banquet. The tickets are 30.00 per person and it’s held at the Double Tree Inn on the river. It is Nov 7th and will begin with cocktails around 5 pm. I am working with them about our own cocktail reception. Then I will put the formal invite out with all the correct start times.

The reason for this email is to get you going on tickets. You can will call them through Meridian Speedway and put them on a credit card. Call the Speedway at 888-2813. There is 650 seats available but this function will sell out. If you work for me in the series please let me know if you can attend.

There is also a great room rate at the hotel if you are coming from out of town. It is 79.00 rate and use the “Meridian Speedway Banquet” for the block. The phone number is  208 343 1871. Questions are welcome..

Hey Everybody,

After a lot of thought and several hours of head scratching I have decided to move the banquet. My response back from you guys and gals was not all that positive for the date we had reserved in Jackpot. There were two banquets we were up against and also a Boise State home game. With Cactus Pete’s we had no way to look at any other options.

I have decided to work within the Meridian Speedway banquet on Nov. 7th here in Boise. I know this goes against the open show in Vegas, but I really can’t seem to make it right with everybody.

This is just a “save the date” type of announcement. I will have all the specifics out to you by Monday or Tuesday of next week. It will be a real nice affair and I’m working with the hotel to host an early cocktail reception just for us.

If you have any immediate questions or comments please fire back.

Thanks,

 Mike

Hi Everybody,

As some of you know, there is a contingent of you that have experienced premature wear on the 2040 tires this year. I sent an e-mail to 3 of the Hoosier execs on Monday AM. I was very impressed with the response time and the professionalism they showed me.

Irish Saunders is the Director of Competition and he is responsible for all the testing and product development for Hoosier. Irish and I have been friends for about 10 years. Hoosier experienced the loss of Terry Newton this year as he retired early and it has provided Hoosier with some pains. Irish informed me today that he is aware of the problem and they have implemented the fix. He guarantees me that he can provide us with the same product that we have become accustomed to. We will have to get through our current inventory and look for better things with the next shipment.

The race at Stateline is upon us. Joe and I have struggled with his applications for the event. I couldn’t open his attachments with all the pertinent info and he has nothing but trouble with his server and his website. He is overnighting some applications to me so I can fax them to you. It is very important that we preregister so that parking is held for you. He would love for you to call him and let him know your intentions for the weekend and he will fax applications to you.

Parking starts on Thursday afternoon. If you have a big rig it is very important to get there and parked. There is an open practice on Thursday evening. It is open to all the cars that are competing that weekend. It is $10.00 per car with driver. Remember that dinner is provided after each event over the course of the weekend with your pit pass.

I had mentioned at the last drivers meeting that I may be able to help some of you with some expenses. I have had no response from anybody. It is really important to try and support this event. So please contact me if you are on the fence and I will try and help.

I will be gone Tuesday at about 1:00 for the rest of that day. I would love to get the tires to you this week or over the weekend if necessary.

If you have any questions, please call me or Joe..

Hey Guys and Gals,

I have been working with the Red Lion Templins Hotel in Post Falls, Idaho for favorable room rates. This hotel is beautiful in its setting right on the Spokane River. The view is phenomenal and the amenities are great. It has a fantastic bar for all you late nighters and the food is great at the restaurants.

The rates are 89.00 per night for doubles or singles. This is a very good rate. The rates are applicable starting on July 30th. The block is under Mike Minegar Racing. I don’t have any clue why they used that, unless they saw me race in 1969..

If you have any problems making reservations, please call Piper at 1 208 777 1417. Please use them if at all possible as Joe Dollefeld has been working hard with them for this event for a long time.

You won’t be disappointed.

Mike

The event is 100 laps. We will run heat races. Please remember that you start the day on your race tires purchased this year. There is no practice on anything else. We will be checking as you pull out for the first practice session. I would suggest you don’t even bring any other tires. That way no mistake can be made.

CarbonX will be putting on a little demonstration on their product during the drivers meeting. I also will have underwear to sell again if you didn’t buy last year, or you would like another pair for the incredible price of 50.00. Please be prompt on the meeting time.

I have all my team back for 2009. I’m very excited about that. No new people for you guys to break in.

I want to include some things I’ve worked on through the years. I’m always thinking about what makes a great driver. And I have other people around me that think of the same things. I started a list of attributes that great drivers have. I’m including this list for the less experienced drivers, the ones looking for role models in the pit area to emulate. If you want to be a winner both on and off the track, these are many of the things you have to work on. Also if you have anything to add to the list please feel free to email me your suggestions.

Thanks for all your participation. It looks to be another great year for the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series.

Hi Peeps,

Hope ya’ll had a great Christmas and New Years celebration.  I am still working on the schedule and as of yet it’s not totally nailed down. Doug is not prepared yet to commit as he has to do the drag race schedule in conjunction with the circle track. The Boise track situation is still in negotiations and is far from over. So bear with me and keep the faith. I want to tell you about a couple of rule changes that we are gonna make. I wanted to get these to you as soon as I could so that you could plan accordingly. There has been lots of talk over the last 5 years about track width differences between coil over cars and big spring cars. I have done research through the years that has made me satisfied that we have done the right thing.

With that being said, I think the time has come to revisit this rule package.  Let me explain why at this time we are looking at changes. The perimeter “tour type” chassis is the most plentiful car out there. They can be found and purchased at fair and reasonable cost. These cars, as of about 7 years ago, were all built to be 56% left side bias. They also were designed to run heavier than our spec head engine weight of 2850. As a result, these chassis that run in our series always struggle with getting left side bias and running the lighter weight. They would always be forced to make a choice between the two. In the economic environment we are living in I want the tour chassis to be a viable alternative to the competitors.

I also believe that even if I sat down everyday and tweaked the rules there will always be a “car of choice” in the series. That is just a fact of life.  The secret is to not have that go back and forth. So please understand that I have put lots of thought into these changes and have included several people in the process.

I also want you to understand that I’m creeping up on these changes so that the results can be read over an entire season. I think sometimes rule changes are knee jerk reactions to people complaining. This is not the case in this situation.

Two changes are going to occur. The first will be track width on the coil over cars will increase to 66”.  Please keep in mind that I still want the body to cover the tires. This is very important because if your still running the tour body on your car it was built to only cover 63.5” of track width. The ABC body package can be tweaked around to cover the wider track widths.

The second change will be car weights. 50 pounds will be added across the board. Spec Head package will weigh 2900 pounds with the open motors at 3000 pounds.

Let’s move to the 604 crate motor package. I want to thank a couple of unnamed motor builders that I have been working with on these decisions. It occurred to me, with their help, that I didn’t want to build a set of rules around one engine. The crate engine, at this point, is an alternative package available to those who want a relatively inexpensive way to get involved. I will state again that I have no intention of making the crate the “preferred engine package” in this series. For 2009 I am leaving the carburetor open on the 604. At this point I don’t want to force anybody to buy a new carb. The 650 HP Holley seems to be the carb of choice but I want to leave it open. I am going to write a claim rule for the engine. The RMCS series only will have the right to purchase the engine for the GM replacement cost. The RMCS will also have the right to ask you to pull your engine for dyno purposes. If the engine dyno’s over what we feel is within the parameters of a pretty extensive database, we will confiscate the engine and return it to the competitor at the end of the season…or something of that nature.

The weight rule for 2009 will be 2750 lbs. We feel 150 lbs is a good weight break for the 604. Let me again explain why. There are several cars that are “Tour Type” chassis that are involved and want to compete with the 604 package. These cars are at a distinct weight disadvantage. In order to maintain any left side bias they are forced to weight them up. Hopefully this weight rule will help them with their cause.

As always with rule changes, I’m sure that these don’t satisfy all the masses. I’m hoping that they help the majority and affect a minority. If you have any questions please call Barack Obama on Jan 21st. 2009.

He will surely help with anything you may need.

Mike

Hey Everybody,

Thought it was time to catch you up on what’s happening. Went to Reno and saw a lot of people and made new friends. Always a busy three days but also can be fun. I met with Joe Doellefeld and pretty much locked up our date for the 200 at Stateline. We are working on the tire deal for the 200 right now. It will no longer be an 8 tire race. The RMCS will be officiating the 200 this year. Hopefully INNSA will go to the Hoosier 2040 with us. That would make things easier for all involved.

The schedule will be out by January 15th. At this point it looks to be 4 at RMR, 3 at MVS, and 1 at Stateline. The Boise deal is still being worked on. I wish I could tell you it was a sure deal but these things just seem to take longer than we would like. As soon as I know something concrete I will let you know.

I wanted to quickly address the 604 crate motor and it’s relationship to the RMCS. There are probably things you have heard and I want to put the rumors to rest. There are rebuilders out there that can give you a totally legal 604 that produces roughly 450-475 horses. These engines are sealed from the rebuilders and are deemed legal upon teardown. This is what I have been told by several reliable people. These engines price out at around $16,000.00. That is complete with all the pulleys, power steering pumps, carbs…etc. I want to emphasize the fact that I do not want to become a crate engine class. I have said it again and again. And this is exactly the reason I don’t want to become a crate engine class.  I had a great talk this morning with the engine builder and we have been friends for a long time. He is going to do some dyno work for me with the 390 carb on one of these engines. I should know some numbers within a couple of weeks. This will help me determine what direction I am going to go with weights and tech.  I am sorry this project has taken so much time but I want to make sure I’m doing it right for everybody. He also told me that he could build a nice spec headed motor for the same or less, that would have better parts and pieces and a few more horsies.

I am also in the process of doing RMCS t-shirts. They are gonna be cool. The winter time is best for getting these done. As soon as the artwork is done I will email it out to you and then you can order. If you would like sweatshirts let me know.

Till we talk again, Mike

Well the trip to Seattle went well and I spread the word about our series and also talked about our rules package. Lots of interest over in the WA. area They have been struggling with the two series trying to compete for the same tracks. Great news came out of the mettings with the merger of the Arca West Late Model Challenge Series and the ASA Late Model Tour.  This was badly needed and I commend Jerry Loesch and Scott Ellsworth. The reason this means something to us is a couple of events in the future for us. I think we will wait to 2010 so they get there feet under them and get all the rules ironed out.

Off to Reno in the morning for the Promoters Workshop. Hopefully I can have a pretty accurate schedule in the next couple of weeks. The Chaparral deal continues on without any clear answers. I wish I could report that it was done but I can't. I have had two or three calls in the last week about people buying cars to run in our series so keep the faith and I will be back on here next week.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving....Mike

Hey Everybody, Thanks for the great banquet. Fun times had by all. Congrats to Dan Koyle for A-1 Heating Rookie of the Year. Also Thane Alderman for Sportsman of the Year. Steve Jones won the Five Star body. It was an evening filled with laughter and even a few tears. You guys and gals never cease to amaze me with your attitudes and fun loving spirit. I'm off to Seattle tomorrow with Steve York to give my talk about the success of our series. It won't be hard as I have tremendous feelings about what we have accomplished in five short years. I turn around and go to Reno for the Promoters Workshop on Dec 3rd. To tell you what a great wife I have, that is her birthday. She has been putting up with me missing it for 13 years. I feel real good about things at Magic Valley. Eddy and I have been on the phone every day since the banquet. Things are good.

Mike
